What the Critics Are Saying About Palazzo Wines

Palazzo 2003 Napa Valley Red Wine

Robert Parker – Wine Advocate (91 points)
“It’s funny how life goes. I met Palazzo’s proprietor at a charity dinner at Napa’s hot, fashionable new French-styled California bistro, Press. After striking up a conversation with proprietor Scott Palazzo, I asked to taste his first vintage. The 2003 Palazzo, a blend of 72% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon was made by wine consultant Peter Franus. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color in addition to a sweet, rich perfume of espresso roast/coffee beans, white chocolate, blackberries, and cherries, medium to full body, noticeable but sweet tannin, and beautiful texture as well as purity. This is an impressive beginning for proprietor Scott Palazzo.”

Michael Cinque – Amagansett Wine, N.Y.
“Smooth, lush, and loaded with rich and ripe Napa fruit, it was a total treat to taste … The wine tastes like many top California labels that sell for twice the price … It’s that good!”

Amagansett Wine & Spirits:
To My Fellow Cutting-Edge Wine Lovers,

Want a hot tip on a brand new Napa nugget? Well, check out the inside scoop on this rocking red that I just know you’re gonna love…

One afternoon last week in New York, I ran into a very reliable West Coast wine insider who slipped me a sample of something called PALAZZO 2003 Napa Valley Red. “Hey, Mikey, you might want to try this as soon as possible,” he advised. The sleek, minimalist label revealed very little about the wine except for the words “Napa Right Bank” – together with the listed ingredients of Merlot-Cabernet Franc-Cabernet Sauvignon. My interest was aroused…

That evening, I put the PALAZZO to the palate and became even more intrigued. Smooth, lush, and loaded with rich and ripe Napa fruit, it was a total treat to taste. With its complex and engaging personality, this is a wine that will provide plenty of drinking pleasure to aficionados of right-bank Bordeaux and California proprietary reds – especially at its modest $50 price tag! The wine tastes like many top California labels that sell for twice the price! It’s that good.

PALAZZO 2003 Napa Valley Red, as it turns out, is the debut release from Scott Palazzo, a former Grammy-nominated music video director turned wine producer. Following a successful run behind the camera with the biggest names in the music biz, the Los Angeles-based Palazzo headed up the coast to pursue his longtime passion for wine. With the aid of good friend / wine consultant PETER FRANUS (interestingly, one of my own favorite Napa vintners), Palazzo set about making just 450 cases of his first wine.

Officially released on November 1, the PALAZZO 2003 Napa Valley Red has already hit the award-winning lists at top L.A. restaurants like The Little Door and the power-player backed West Hollywood Ago (DeNiro, Weinstein, Ridley Scott, et al.) Not surprisingly, there is a growing buzz on PALAZZO among San Francisco wine directors, too. (Not to jinx things, but do not be surprised to see the wine also receiving a formidable “RP” nod in the not-too-distant future. But don’t wait for the point scores – by the time they come in, this will be long gone.)

Initial allocations for the New York market were set at just 10% of the 450 cases produced. When I tracked down Scott Palazzo on the phone a couple of days ago, he agreed that the lion’s share of his fabulous PALAZZO 2003 Napa Valley Red should be introduced exclusively to you, my “friends & family” of Amagansett Wine & Spirits.

This is definitely a wine to watch – and to drink by the case!!! However, due to the tiny production and my word to Mr. Palazzo, there has to be a two (2) case limit per customer.

Production on subsequent vintages of PALAZZO will increase to around 800 cases. But, now is the time to get ahead of the curve and grab some of the highly limited debut 2003 vintage. You will not regret it. Email ASAP to secure your reserve your allocation.

As always, I elect to drink good wine…right now, my vote is for the PALAZZO 2003 Napa Red! It’s definitely a candidate for one of California’s most exciting 2005 releases. (Move over, Arnie – this one’s got real muscle!)

All the best from your wine pal,
Michael N. Cinque

“Just popped it. Seriously great.
Kudos and cheers.”

“I was given a bottle of your 03 red, simply put it was the best wine I have ever had! I would like to purchase several bottles however I live in Fort Mill SC (right by Charlotte NC). How can purchase them? Thanks again, and look forward to being a long time consumer.”

“Just to let you know about the success of your 2003 Proprietary red in a blind tasting of California (and Israeli) Cab-Merlot-blends yesterday, among friends, here in Israel. I picked up a bottle of your wine at a store in San Diego a few months ago upon a local recommendation. At the tasting the wine was outshone only by a 2001 Dominus, clearly preferred over a 2000 Bryant, with your blend's balance, style and depth. So, keep up the good work, and I will look out for your wine in the future (if you could notify me about new wines that you produce, I would be most grateful; shipping abroad can be difficult, but I am sure we could work something out…).”

“We just drank your 2003 palazzo at l'orangerie with the owner. We are very impressed and wondered how we can buy it?”
“I had the pleasure of drinking a bottle of the 2003 Palazzo and was very impressed. I live in San Diego, CA and would like to know if there is a local distributor in the area where I can pick up a case. Do you have a list of locations where the wine is sold? Do you sell direct? Thanks.”
“Wow…what a great taste!!
Can this be bought by the case?”

“Just REALLY enjoyed your '03 Napa Valley Red at Sage Restaurant in Newport Beach, CA. It was the featured wine on the menu, and was recommended by the waiter. It was fantastic - great complexity. Can you tell me where I might be able to find it at retail in Orange County, CA?”
